The national office does not offer scholarships or assistantships. Instead, the national office provides support to the individual units that will be conducting and administering the graduate research projects. Consequently, please visit the Jobs page to see what opportunities might be available.
Currently, there are 40 units in the CRU program located at land grant colleges and universities in 38 states. Please see our map on the home page and the listing of host universities on the Cooperators page.
They are called coop units because each cooperator plays a role in the staffing, funding and directing the units. It is a true cooperative venture in that: The USGS provides 2-5 PhD level research scientists that also sit on the graduate faculty at their host university; the host university provides office and lab space and administrative support; and the state natural resource agency(s) provide base operating funds to their unit. In addition the state and university cooperators have direct involvement in the staffing of and research conducted by the unit.
