About the Hawaii Unit

The Hawai'i Unit is led by Dr. Tim Grabowski, who oversees Unit operations. The Assistant Unit Leader position is currently vacant. Hiipoi Kon and Julie Leialoha provide administrative support for Unit activities.

Dr. Grabowski holds adjunct faculty rank at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, teaches graduate level courses, and oversees the Unit's research projects. Research projects typically support graduate students and post-docs and address a variety of topics of interest to state and federal cooperators.

Facilities

The Marine Science Department at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo is the home department of the Hawai'i Unit. Unit offices are located in the Marine Sciences Building and across the street in the Armory Building.

Unit Leader

Tim Grabowski
Tim Grabowski takes a selfie while snorkeling

Tim took over as leader of the Hawai'i Unit in 2016 after serving as the Assistant Unit Leader-Fisheries at the Texas Unit (2010-2016). He is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Marine Science at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo.
