Space for time analysis: Examining fisheries populations on created reefs across the northern Gulf of Mexico

Graduate student Laura Brown with pot full of crabs sampled from artificial reef.

Duration

January 2011 - December 2013

Narrative

Enormous effort and money have gone into restoring or creating artificial oyster reefs, but little is known about the effectiveness of these efforts as they relate to material used for building reefs. Unit scientists and collaborators are examining reefs created between 1 and 20 years ago using different materials to compare oyster populations, and fisheries use of these reefs.
